Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has boldly talked up the club's chances of winning further trophies this season.
Diego Simeone's side are amongst the favourites to win the Europa League – for the third time in four seasons – and are even being talked about as title contenders after a terrific start which sees them level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga after six wins in their first seven games.
“We are double specialists,” Cerezo exclaimed in an interview with Marca. “We did one in 2012, one in 2010, and one in 1996 also, so it is not a strange word for Atletico.
“In football there are no small enemies, anyone can play and this is being shown continuously. I really think that there are several teams in Spain, not just Atletico, that can join the elite of Real Madrid and Barcelona.”
The patron assured fans that on-fire forward Falcao is going nowhere yet.
“Falcao is an Atletico Madrid player, he currently has a contract for this year and three more. We are delighted with him, he is delighted with us, and anything else is assumptions, conjecture and crystal balls.”
Lastly, Cerezo reflected fondly on the club's Europa League and European Super Cup successes.
“These have been titles won with sacrifice, effort and good play. Because the truth is we have played big rivals in Europe, especially Inter and Chelsea in the final of the Super Cup.”
