Players support Mel rotations

Real Betis defender Ignacio Perez ‘Nacho’ has declared that his teammates understand and support Coach Pepe Mel’s rotation policy.

The tactician has made a number of changes to his team in recent weeks, with the decision last weekend to drop Ruben Castro not going down well with the player.

Castro is anticipated to be back in contention for Betis’ home match this weekend with Real Sociedad, as one of six rumoured changes Mel is set to make to the team.

Nacho, who is expected to be one of the few to keep his place in the side after last week’s 4-0 defeat at Malaga, came out today to support his tactician’s decisions.

“He has demonstrated that everyone can feature for the team and that no-one should expect to have a starting place,” the defender told reporters today, before turning his attention to recent refereeing in Los Beticos’ games that have seen them have a total of three men sent off in the past two games.

“I do not believe that there are orders from above to hurt some teams and benefit others. However, the referee cannot rise to the occasion, there must be an internal wake-up call so that the next game will be better.”

As a result of mistakes made during Betis’ defeat to Atletico Madrid, match official Alfonso Alvarez Izquierdo has been pulled off the rota for the coming weekend.

“When a referee is not on form, I understand why they cannot run for a few weeks, it is the same when Coaches drop their players,” mused Nacho.
