Father advised Falcao to be striker

Radamel Falcao has reflected on what it means to be a professional footballer, and revealed the advice his father gave him.

Falcao and his father have clashed publicly in recent weeks, with his father declaring that the player dreams of playing for Real Madrid, but the player insistent that he is dedicated to Atletico Madrid.

Talking to Cuatro today, the striker reflected on his upbringing and his obsession with the sport.

“Since I remember I have always been with a football,” he recollected.

“As a child I had the dream of being a professional and it was after years of hard work, but I got there. God has given me the talent and the health to play football.

“My father always told me to play with my heart, and to play up front, as a forward, they make the most money.”

The forward also spoke of his standing back home in his homeland: “Shakira is more important than me in Colombia.”
