De Boer: Ajax didn’t turn up

Frank de Boer rued his side’s naïve approach to the first half against Real Madrid, but still saw the potential for a draw from their performance.

The Dutch fell to a 4-1 home defeat, which De Boer felt was lost to the home side when falling 2-0 down.

“We played pretty badly,” he admitted to reporters after the game. “We have not reached our level and when you don’t turn up, you cannot win against Madrid.

“I’m disappointed, especially for the first 50 minutes. When at 1-2 we created a little bit of danger for them and we deserved to draw.”

The former Barcelona man was asked of his take on Jose Mourinho’s side in comparison to the Camp Nou outfit. The two clubs meet in the Clasico this coming weekend.

“I see Madrid and Barca at the same level. I like watching Barcelona for their style of play, but the transitions from Madrid make them very dangerous.”
