Navas: Michel improving me

Jesus Navas has thanked Coach Michel for his influence on his current form for Sevilla, but admits that there is still room for improvement.

The right-winger has been in notable form for the Rojiblancos this term and he believes that it is down to the influence of his Coach.

“I believe that Michel has something to do with my form, he was a player in the same position, on the wing,” he told Sevilla TV today.

“On a personal level I am happy with the work I am doing, but I don’t want to stay at this level, I think there is always room for improvement.

“I like to be stuck out there on the wing, but it is true that I have been advised to enter infield more.

“Football is becoming more tactical and you have to pick up on things, playing inside is something that is sometimes important, but I will never lose running down the wing, because I think that is a way to create danger.”

Another credited with contributing to Navas’ form is right-back Cicinho.

“He is a player who likes to attack. He brings continuity and that is very important for the team.”

Navas was then asked about the defeat at home to Barcelona on Saturday and if the refereeing decisions – including Gary Medel’s red card and a missed Barca handball in the build up to their equaliser – influenced things.

“There were decisions that we did not benefit from, but there is no getting around it – sometimes decisions benefit you and other times they harm you.

“We have to focus on what we have done. We are doing some great work and that is the way to achieve things.

“We got to 2-0 against a mighty Barcelona. I prefer to think about that, that playing like that will get us many points…”

The next chance to add to the points tally comes on Friday with a trip to Celta Vigo.

“I think it will be difficult, they are a team that will try to win in front of their own fans, but we have to focus on ourselves, because we are doing things right and we make life difficult.”
