Getafe wear down 10 man Mallorca

Getafe ended Real Mallorca's unbeaten run with a 1-0 win thanks to a controversial early sending off.

Surprise package Mallorca were unbeaten this season and hoping for a win to go third, whilst Getafe needed the points to climb out the relegation zone.

Mallorca started excellently at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, forcing two saves from Miguel Angel Moya and hitting the post before even five minutes had elapsed.

Things went badly wrong in the tenth minute however when defender Ximo Navarro was shown a straight red for hacking down Diego Castro. The tackle was certainly a rash one and worthy of a yellow but red seemed harsh.

Abdel Barrada's low drive was tipped onto the post by Dudu Aouate but Getafe struggled to break the ten man visitors down in the first half.

That changed three minutes into the second half, when Castro swept Barrada's low cross high into the net. The winger celebrated by revealing a t-shirt bearing a picture of his former Gijon boss Manuel Preciado, who died in June.

Valencia loanee Paco Alcacer came off the bench for Getafe and rounded Aouate, but shot wide.

Jose Nunes had a great chance to snatch an unlikely point for the Islanders but scuffed wide when unmarked from a free kick. Javier Arizmendi missed another glaring late opportunity for Joaquin Caparros' side.
