Gabi: We believe Simeone’s every word

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi insists the team are simply taking each game as it comes, despite their outstanding start to the season.

Diego Simeone's side defeated Real Betis 4-2 on Wednesday to take their points tally to 13 from the first five games. But ahead of the Rojiblancos trip to Espanyol on Sunday the 29-year-old midfielder has sounded a note of caution, reminding fans not to get ahead of themselves.

“We have to go little by little,” Gabi told AS. “We are happy for the fans, and we hope they enjoy the moment. But now we have a game on Sunday against a team that need points, who haven't started well, but are a good team.

“The team spirit we have in the dressing room, amongst ourselves and with the Coach makes us go into every game believing every word he says,” he continued.

“The union we have with the fans as well gives us extra ambition, to believe in ourselves. We have to stride forward now, but we mustn’t forget to take it game-by-game.”
