Alba available for Barca

Barcelona have welcomed full-back Jordi Alba back to full training and the likely matchday squad for this weekend, after his struggles with illness.

The summer signing from Valencia returned from the recent international break suffering with flu and was eventually hospitalised for treatment, due to the persistent fever he was suffering with.

The length of the illness left him too weak for inclusion in the team’s midweek Champions League match with Spartak Moscow, but after taking part in training today, the player has been given an all clear from club doctors.

Alba is therefore considered available for Saturday night’s home match with Granada, easing somewhat Tito Vilanova’s selection headache in defence. Barca are without Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique and Marc Muniesa this week, alongside the continued absence of Eric Abidal.

Alongside Alba, B team players Cristian Tello and Sergi Roberto were part of the 21-man senior squad training today.
