Pellegrino ‘disappointed not dejected’

Valencia boss Mauricio Pellegrino admitted after the 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich he was ‘disappointed not dejected’.

Substitute Nelson Valdez’s late goal was not enough for Los Che in the Allianz Arena after Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos had given the Germans a two-goal advantage, but Pellegrino remained upbeat afterwards.

“We didn’t threaten their goal much but when we did then we did well. We could have tried different combinations but they need to be worked on so we must be relaxed about it,” he told a Press conference.

“We lost the ball too much, particularly in the first half. They have a lot of quality and tried to control the game from the start

“However, the positive thing is that we can do much better so I’m disappointed but not dejected.”

Without wishing to make excuses, Pellegrino spoke of the number of players he had missing through injury.

“We had several who were not involved and also internationals who played with problems, but that is no excuse. I was left with the feeling that we should have made more chances.

“Even so, the second goal was a killer, although my players showed character and did well at a tough place to come with the fans against them.”
