Lafita: La Liga starts now for Getafe

Getafe midfielder Angel Lafita has declared that Getafe’s season starts with the game at Celta Vigo this Saturday.

El Geta have already faced Real Madrid and Barcelona in the opening four La Liga games, along with trips to the Sanchez Pizjuan to take on Sevilla and a visit to Riazor for the game with Deportivo de La Coruna.

Lafita, signed from Real Zaragoza over the summer, believes that the next three fixtures – Celta, Real Mallorca and Zaragoza respectively – are all games that Luis Garcia’s men are capable of winning.

“We have faced three of the big teams and taken four points, so our season begins now,” Lafita told a Press conference.

“There are nine points to play for in the next three games and we’ll see where Getafe are then and what our objectives will be, what we can aspire to.

“Thinking of the teams faced I think we have done quite well. If we want to make that leap in quality then now is the time to prove it.

“We must be ambitious and with the squad we have here then we must be thinking of the top 10 or even a Europa League place.”

Lafita missed out on the 4-1 home defeat to Barcelona last weekend but confirmed he is now fully fit for the clash at Balaidos – if selected.

“I’m much better and am back playing after 15 days out, but getting into the side will be difficult as we have two players for every position.

“There are not many squads that have that level of competition and we must be at our best to put doubt in the boss’s mind.”

A former Deportivo de La Coruna player, Lafita is looking forward to renewing rivalry with Celta, yet he insists it is just another game.

“I see it as one game more and I’ve been to Balaidos after leaving Depor, although I didn’t get a good reception.

“However, it’s not something that bothers me,” he concluded.
