Gago to miss Mallorca trip

Fernando Gago has undergone further medical tests at Valencia today and whilst described as ‘fine’, he will not be risked by the club this weekend.

The midfielder sustained a head injury during the international break that saw him forced to stay in South America under observation for almost a week.

Returning to Spain this midweek, Gago was seen by Valencia’s medical staff today, with their tests reportedly all providing positive results.

However, even with the player returning to light training from Wednesday, Los Che will not select the player this weekend, to minimise any possible risks with the injury.

Club doctor Jordi Candel told reporters today that the player will rejoin full training from next Tuesday, after completing protocol for his recovery period.

The head of the medical department explained that the player had suffered a ‘significant head trauma and a small impairment at the spinal level of the neck’ which had ‘concerned’ his medical team.

Candel also explained that Jeremy Mathieu will be back in full training from next week too, after suffering with tendonitis, whilst Ever Banega is expected back with the group from the first week of October, after a lengthy absence through injury.
