Real Betis boss Pepe Mel has complimented bested foes Real Valladolid and admitted the finale of last night's match was 'odd.'

Striker Ruben Castro gave Mel's side a 1-0 away win with a late and controversial goal at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla last night, shooting into an empty net shortly after he had appeared to be offside.

Valladolid boss Miroslav Djukic has described the incident as 'a disgraceful move.'

“In football, sometimes the ugliest goals are more important than the pretty ones,” said Mel.

“Both teams made enough chances to win. Valladolid played very well, with much discretion. They made things difficult in the first 20 minutes. After that we were more serious, more intense, and left less space.”
