Former Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano has described Lionel Messi as a ‘class apart’ from any other player.
Valdano, nicknamed The Philosopher of Football, believes there is not a footballer in the world who comes close to the Barcelona star on the pitch.
“Messi is a class apart from the rest and there is nobody who is anywhere near the level he plays at,” commented the Argentine in an interview with El Heraldo, before going on to praise Barcelona, Pep Guardiola and the Spanish national team.
“The benchmarks in football are Barcelona and the Spain team. To have possession of the ball is the best way to play great football.
“In Pep Guardiola, Barca had someone who was a great innovator for the game,” said Valdano.
