Defender Carlos Zambrano has accused Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi of behaving like girls in Peru’s 1-1 draw with Argentina.
Zambrano, scorer of his country’s goal in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier, told depor.pe that the pair constantly complained throughout the match and Messi, who said afterwards that it was ‘more fight than football’, was afraid.
“Lionel Messi did not show much, he was afraid. We had a debt to our fans and we delivered that with good football,” said the Eintracht Frankfurt player.
“Higuain and Messi are like girls and complained about everything. Moreover, Higuain tried to provoke me all the time but my behaviour was above that and I never fell for his game.
“The Argentines were frustrated because they did not know how to stop us. They couldn’t get the ball and wanted to do their job by insulting us.
“They think they are untouchable and that’s wrong because football is for men,” he added.
