Former Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Dani Aranzubia has admitted that leaving the club, as Javi Martinez has this summer, is always ‘complicated’.
Aranzubia reportedly almost left the Basques in 2007 to transfer to Real Zaragoza, but opted to stay on, until ultimately departing to Deportivo the following summer when his contract expired.
Asked about his former club’s situation with Martinez, the 32-year-old reflected that to leave the club is always hard.
“To leave Athletic is complicated and, in this case, even though a team like Bayern Munich paid his buyout clause, which was agreed between the club and the player, there are people who still don’t understand,” he told reporters today.
“That is understandable, though, because it is complicated.”
