Fabricio in hot water at Betis

Real Betis goalkeeper Fabricio could be in hot water with boss Pepe Mel over comments about a game with Sporting Gijon last season.

A report in muchodeporte.com claims Fabricio did not like what he heard in the dressing room during the week leading up to the match, that boss Pepe Mel had suggested his players relax as they were mathematically safe from relegation following the 2-1 derby win over Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

The Asturians were battling relegation at the time and Fabricio was subsequently left out of the game and replaced by Casto.

However, asked on Tuesday if a refusal to play had been the cause of his absence, the 24-year-old, while not confirming it, was ambiguous in his response.

“I don’t know. I don’t remember and if it did happen I don’t want to remember it. Last season has gone and now I only want to concentrate on the game with Valladolid [next Monday],” he told Canal Sur Radio.

Fabricio has been left out of the Betis squad for Wednesday’s friendly with Benfica in Portimao.
