Griezmann targets 2014 World Cup

Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann has his sights set on breaking into Didier Deschamps' France team this season.

Griezmann, who featured as a substitute for France's Under-21 side in a 4-0 friendly win against Chile on Monday, says he is happy to keep learning his trade in San Sebastián and believes continuing to perform at Anoeta will provide him with a route into the full national set-up before too long.

“I want to keep playing as many games as possible and improve my statistics at la Real,” Griezmann, who scored seven goals in 35 Liga appearances last season, told French sports daily L'Equipe.

“There was never any question of me wanting to leave this summer,” added the 21-year-old, who has been linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs in recent months.

“I didn't want to go elsewhere and then risk being stuck on the bench. My chances of going to the 2014 World Cup would have been minimal then. Playing at a World Cup is more important to me than joining a big club.

“I am working hard to catch the eye of Didier Deschamps. It is an objective of mine to break into the national team this season. I'm only 21, I'm not saying I'm good enough yet but I will do everything I can to get there this season.”
