Monreal staying at Malaga

Malaga are reported as declaring full-back Nacho Monreal off the market in light of continued links to Athletic Bilbao.

The Basques are still in the business of purchasing players this month, having been granted an extension by the Spanish League after losing Javi Martinez to Bayern Munich.

Subsequently they have been linked with Monreal and it is believed have already made an offer of €10m for the 26-year-old left-back.

Coming in at half his buy-out clause, the deal is understood to be €8m direct to Malaga and a further €2m to Osasuna to settle the Costa del Sol’s outstanding debt to them for their original 2011 purchase of the player.

However, reports in Malaga suggest that the club are unwilling to negotiate, with Manuel Pellegrini reportedly telling the club that they cannot afford to release him for the demands being placed on the squad for their duel domestic and European campaign.

The team are facing nine games in a space of 44 days once the current international break ends.
