Monreal suffers ‘metatarsal injury’

Spain left-back Nacho Monreal may have suffered a broken metatarsal during Arsenal’s win over Aston Villa on Monday night.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealed his concern over the defender in his post-match interview and said it wouldn’t be until Tuesday that the full extent of the injury was known.

“Monreal was an accident, but we have to check his metatarsal in the morning. He got kicked on the top of the laces,” Wenger said.

The 28-year-old Monreal started against Villa and helped Arsenal to a 2-1 victory that saw the London club return to the top of the Premier League table.

But Monreal had to be substituted after 66 minutes of the game after suffering the injury.

The former Osasuna and Malaga full-back joined Arsenal in January 2012 and has 16 caps for La Roja.
