Athletic Bilbao have made a ‘firm offer’ to Arsenal for left-back Nacho Monreal, reports in Spain say.
Marca put the fee on the table at €8m, despite Arsenal paying Malaga €10m plus add-ons when they signed the defender in January 2013.
But the Gunners are willing to sell Monreal as he is approaching the final 12 months of his contract and they aren’t of a mind to offer a renewal.
Monreal would still have to accept the offer from the Basques, who would give the 29-year-old a three-year deal.
Athletic are expected to face competition from other clubs in Spain as well as some of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals but Monreal could find more regular game time at San Mames than elsewhere.
