Athletic Bilbao’s hopes of signing Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal have been hit after the defender confirmed he wants to re-sign with the Premier League club.
Monreal is approaching the final year of his contract with the Gunners and it had been suggested he was a target for Los Leones.
But Monreal has told Sky Sports that his intention is to extend his deal with the London club having signed from Malaga in January 2013.
“I still have a year of my contract and I would like to stay at Arsenal. I’m very lucky to play in a team like this and I’m very happy doing so,” he said, AS reports.
“If Arsene Wenger wants me to stay, I will. I’m very happy. I have a contract and I intend to continue playing here. I will renew my contract soon.”
