Rayo Vallecano have signed central defender Sergio Rodriguez Garcia, known as Rodri, from Spartak Moscow.

The Madrid club’s official website confirmed that the 28-year-old arrives on a free transfer from the Russian outfit and will pen a two-year deal at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas.

The Spanish Under-20 international began his career in Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, making five first-team appearances for the Catalans before moving to Deportivo de La Coruna in 2006.

After three years at Riazor, which included loans spells at Almeria, Poli Ejido, Maritimo and Salamanca, he was transferred to Hercules in July 2009 and earned a €400,000 switch to Spartak two years later.

However, despite featuring in 23 League games last term he has been allowed to return to Spain and will be officially presented as a Rayo player after training on Saturday.
