Athletic Bilbao midfielder David Lopez will be playing his football in England with Brighton next season, reports Marca.
The 29-year-old has had his contract with the Basques rescinded after being informed he was not part of boss Marcelo Bielsa’s future plans, but has quickly found a new club after being snapped up by Gustavo Poyet’s Championship side.
Lopez joined Los Leones in summer 2007 from Osasuna for a reported €6m after beginning his career with the Pamplona-based club.
In his five seasons with Bilbao, the Logrono-born player featured in a total of 144 official La Liga, Copa del Rey and European games, notching 16 goals.
He joins Ustaritz and Galder Cerrajeria in having departed San Mames on the final day of the summer transfer window.
