Simeone: Falcao near perfection

Diego Simeone called Radamel Falcao’s display in the 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao as ‘extraordinary, almost perfect’.

The Atletico Madrid boss witnessed his star striker down Los Leones with a hat-trick at the Vicente Calderon and also declared himself delighted with the rest of his players.

“We opted to play attacking midfielders in their half of the pitch to exploit the spaces, first closing Athletic down and then beginning to create things for Falcao, who was extraordinary, almost perfect,” he explained at a Press conference.

“In the second half the players we had on the bench allowed us to be more aggressive and intense, as we had intended to be.

“I especially liked how the substitutes did when they came on, and to have such strength in depth generates a lot of excitement.”

The Argentine said the next challenge for his team was Friday’s European Super Cup Final against Chelsea in Monaco’s Stade Louis II.
“I participated in it as a player and was there as a fan when Atletico played Inter. It’s a wonderful occasion,” said Simeone.

“We are going to play against one of England’s greatest teams, possibly one economically and in a footballing sense more powerful than us, but with humility and hard work we will go there to face them and try to play well.

“However, although it has nothing to do with today’s match we always try to think game-by-game, so the best way to prepare for it is to do well in the previous fixture.”
