Real Madrid have confirmed via their official website that Nuri Sahin will be joining Liverpool on season-long loan.
Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has made it known over the summer he was keen to send Sahin out on loan and not discard him completely, although the player himself was initially understood to have preferred a move to Arsenal, who were also interested.
However, Liverpool have won the day after being Los Blancos’ preferred option, given they will not have to face the Anfield outfit in the Champions League as could be the case with the Gunners.
The 23-year-old’s chances of forcing his way into Madrid boss Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up for this season had appeared minimal following a disappointing first season in which he was hit by injury.
Sahin is due to arrive in Liverpool for a medical and could be intention for the game with champions Manchester City on Sunday.
