‘Nobody can stop Messi’

Paraguay head Coach Gerardo Pelusso has lamented the task that awaits him in September – trying to stop Lionel Messi.

The 58-year-old will take his team to Cordoba early next month to face Argentina in Round 7 of the 2014 World Cup CONMEBOL qualifying campaign.

In anticipation of this, Pelusso has pointed out he is struggling to come up with a way to stop Barcelona’s Messi, much as most opponents before him.

“The whole world has tried and no-one can stop him,” the Coach told Argentine Press today.

“If he is on form, as he always is, then there is not much you can do. Against Brazil they controlled him for 20 minutes, but then he was played three balls and scored three goals.

“But, I’m not going crazy. If we have to man mark him then we will, but the wheels won’t fall off our team.

“Without doubt it is going to be difficult, but it hasn’t been easy for Argentina to face Paraguay recently.”

In qualifying, Argentina are currently sat third in the table, six points and five places above Paraguay, whilst Messi has netted three times so far in the campaign.
