Simao at Espanyol for Europe

Simao Sabrosa has been unveiled to the Press today as an Espanyol player, revealing that he is at the club to qualify for Europe.

Los Periquitos made the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid attacker their fifth signing of the summer last week, capturing him on a two-year contract after he rescinded his Besiktas deal.

Upon returning to La Liga, the Portuguese is very enthusiastic and explained why he chose the Catalans.

“I’m super happy. The club has worked hard for this deal. They have an ambitious project and I am happy to wear their shirt,” he told reporters at his presentation.

“The strength of this team is the squad, the togetherness that they have and the way they play. The Coach likes to play good football and this group has a winning mentality, they are ambitious and eager to work.”

Simao also reflected that he is with the club to reach a specific goal in the League – European qualification.

“Espanyol are making a tremendous effort to create a good squad and to reach their goal of Europe. I have come here for that, to help and to have a good season and in the end if possible, to celebrate this achievement.

“The squad has a mix of youth and experience. With this we can have a good season and I hope to be a major player in the team.

“I’m not a young man arriving at this club, I have to prove myself. I spoke to Mauricio Pochettino before joining and he told me what he expects of me, as I explained what I can give.

“We are all clear about everything and now we will work to progress.”
