Sevilla squad not closed says Monchi

Sevilla director of football Monchi says the door is not closed to further arrivals at the Sanchez Pizjuan before the end of August.

Los Nervionenses’ boss Michel [pictured] is understood to be happy with the squad at his disposal, but Monchi maintains there is still room if the right player becomes available.

“We know the Coach likes the squad but we could still sign somebody if he is within our economic margins,” he told a Press conference.

“I think the market could well start to move because statistically 80 per cent of business is done in the last few days of August.

“There are still two weeks left and there might be a good opportunity that arises.”

Monchi maintained that he thought Sevilla’s main rivals for the European places this season would be ‘the same as always’ – teams such as Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao and Malaga.

“After that I think there will be some sides who people do not expect to be fighting for the top spots.

“I think Real Sociedad could be one of those as they have reinforced with [Carlos] Vela, Jose Angel and Chori Castro.”
