Brazilian football legend Pele has today asserted that compatriot Neymar is a better player than Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
Neymar is currently based in his home country with Santos, but is strongly linked with a future switch to La Liga, with Barcelona and Real Madrid seemingly his choice.
Pele, in being asked of the comparison between himself and Diego Maradona that have gone on for decades, opted to use a comparison between Neymar and Messi to make his point.
“The Argentines get upset when I talk,” he reflected to reporters today.
“For me, Maradona was a great player, but he only had a left foot and also couldn’t head the ball. Messi is somewhat a copy of him. Neymar, however, has conditions to be better.
“Will Neymar score more than I did? It’s hard to say yes or no, but it will be very difficult. Neymar is an exceptional player, has a lot of ability, but sometimes shows that he has not matured enough to take on that amount of responsibility.”
