Sivok: I rejected Sevilla

Besiktas defender Tomas Sivok has revealed that he turned down the chance to sign for Sevilla over the summer.

Los Rojiblancos boss Michel had been looking to reinforce his defence since the end of last season and, according to Eldesmarque, the Czech international was high on his list of priorities.

However, despite the 28-year-old having met with officials from the Andalusian club, ironically with the intention of replacing Julien Escude who went in the opposite direction, Sivok says he declined the move for personal reasons.

“I was really close to accepting Sevilla’s proposal,” he told a Press conference in Istanbul.

“I spoke about their contract offer with my family but I did not want to force them to have to move to Spain.

“In the end I decided I was happy with Besiktas.”

Sivok has been with the Turkish outfit since being snapped up for €4.1m from Udinese in May 2008, having had two spells with both Ceske Budejovice and Sparta Prague in his native country before trying his luck in Italy.
