Barca offer Fontas to Ajax

Mundo Deportivo claims Barcelona have offered central defender Andreu Fontas to Ajax.

The Dutch club’s director of football Marc Overmars and boss Frank de Boer, both former Barcelona players, have been casting an eye on some of the youngsters at the Camp Nou as boss Tito Vilanova formulates his plans for the forthcoming season.

The primary targets were Cristian Tello, Sergi Roberto and Marc Muniesa, but the latter tore knee ligaments in the friendly with Hamburg and La Blaugrana have now told Ajax that they are willing to let Fontas move to the Amsterdam Arena instead.

De Boer is already understood to have called former Barca boss Pep Guardiola to get the low-down on the player and Overmars, with the coach’s approval, travelled by private plane to Rumania last week to watch him in action against Dinamo Bucharest.

However, although Overmars reportedly spoke to Fontas regarding a possible move, the 22-year-old informed him he had no wish to play for Ajax either on loan or via a permanent arrangement.

Hence, Ajax will continue to wait for Tello and Roberto, although it appears neither will move until at least the January transfer window.
