Michu: Premier better than La Liga

New Swansea City signing Michu believes the Premier League is a better competition than La Liga.

Speaking at a Press conference after his €2.5m move to the Welsh club, the former Rayo Vallecano midfielder said he believed he had taken a step forward in his career.

“This is a great opportunity because I feel the Premier League is a better competition than La Liga and I think I will improve as a player here,” explained the 26-year-old.

In addition, Michu revealed that the appointment of Real Mallorca boss Michael Laudrup as new Swansea manager was key to his arrival at the Liberty Stadium.

“I know how Laudrup’s teams play and I wanted to be a part of that. He was the main reason I came here.

“I had offers from other teams but I always wanted to come to Swansea because of the Coach, his style of play and the Premier League.”

Michu – real name Miguel Perez Cuesta – was a revelation at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas last term, scoring an impressive 15 goals from 37 La Liga appearances in his first season with Rayo after signing from Celta Vigo on a free transfer 12 months ago.

“I leave Rayo as the team that gave me the opportunity to play in La Primera and I am very grateful. The fans were always good to me,” added Michu.

The 26-year-old – who started his career with his local side Real Oviedo – has been the subject of numerous enquiries over the summer, with several English sides including Fulham, Stoke City, Southampton, Wigan and West Bromwich Albion all expressing an interest.
