Sevilla director of football Monchi has blasted Ivan Piris' representatives and accused them of 'playing with the club'.
The Andalusians had identified Piris as a priority in boss Michel’s quest to solve his problematic right-back spot, but talks with the 23-year-old Sao Paulo player broke down irretrievably and he has signed for Serie A giants Roma instead.
However, Monchi is not happy with the way the Paraguayan international’s advisors have handled negotiations to take him to the Sanchez Pizjuan, particularly the investment group that owns Piris’ rights, and he feels they have used the Andalusians after a verbal agreement had been reached.
“It was not a matter of economics but one of respect for Sevilla,” Monchi revealed via his account with social network Twitter.
“We have broken off talks because they wanted to play with Sevilla. We will not allow them to laugh at us.”
Los Nervionenses will now look elsewhere and it is understood they will try to tempt Marseille’s Rod Fanni, although the Ligue 1 team want him to renew his contract with Lille and an unnamed German club also interested.
