Ajax director of football Marc Overmars expects to be given the green light on Tuesday to sign Barcelona's Marc Muniesa on loan.
“Barcelona will meet the player this Tuesday to discuss a contract extension,” Overmars told De Telegraaf.
“Once that is resolved then Ajax will be free to negotiate with him and he wants to come here, although we will now have to wait, but we are very interested in taking him on loan for a year.”
Overmars was advised by Barcelona and Ajax legend Johan Cruyff some days ago that he should sign the 20-year-old, who made just one first-team appearance for the Catalans last term, and he is seen as the natural replacement for Jan Vertonghen who has left for Tottenham Hotspur.
Frank de Boer, boss of the Dutch club, believes the young central defender will be a great addition to his squad.
“He has a lot of experience playing in La Segunda and I have seen him on DVD. He has a great left foot,” he commented.
