Real defender joins Bayer Leverkusen

Real Madrid B defender Dani Carvajal has announced via his official Twitter account that he has joined Bayer Leverkusen.

“Today I have taken an important step in my career. I will play for Bayer Leverkusen for the next five seasons.

“I hope I will improve as a player and am able to return in the future when I am ready to belong to the first team,” he tweeted.

Real Madrid will receive €5m from the Bundesliga outfit for the 20-year-old and have reserved the option to buy for the next three years, with Carvajal now getting the opportunity to appear in European competition as Bayer finished fifth last season and qualified for the Europa League.

Carvajal has been with Los Blancos since he was 10 and played for every age group at the club before becoming part of the B side that achieved promotion to La Segunda at the end of last term.

He has also been capped at youth level for Spain and was a member of the team that won the European Under-19 Championship in Rumania in 2011.
