Benfica boss Jorge Jesus cannot believe what he saw from one of his players on Tuesday night.
The Portuguese club could have put destiny in their own hands with a win over Barcelona at Camp Nou.
But they left with only a point, left to rue their missed chances, much like the home team, who also had their opportunities.
Though, the best chance came in stoppage time when Haris Seferovic was through on goal and with the goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen out of the picture.
But somehow, with only a defender to beat, he put the ball wide of the post.
That was the difference in Benfica only needing to win their last game against Dynamo Kyiv to qualify and having to rely on Barcelona losing to Bayern Munich.
And Benfica boss Jesus just can’t get over the miss. He said after the game, as streamed on YouTube: “It’s the last play of the game that affects me emotionally, it was a shame.
“In 30 years as a trainer, I’ve never seen a miss like that. Now we depend on others and it’s not the best situation.
“We will see what happens between Bayern Munich and Barca.”
