Raul Gonzalez can manage Real Madrid – Fernando Hierro

Fernando Hierro believes his former Real Madrid teammate Raul Gonzalez has ‘everything’ it takes to be the boss of the first team.

The comments come on the 25th anniversary of Raul’s first-team debut for Los Blancos, with Raul currently in charge of the club’s Castilla team.

Raul – who enjoyed a 20-year career at the top level – won his first title as a coach when the Juvenil B team won their league title last campaign.

He has now successfully completed his UEFA coaching badges and this summer assumed managerial responsibilities at Madrid’s de facto reserve side, Castilla.

The Castilla compete in Spain’s third tier – the Segunda Division B – and were unsuccessful in a promotion bid to the Segunda last season.

Raul played in Madrid's first team for 16 seasons, winning three European Cups, two Club World Cups, a European Super Cup, six league titles and four Copa del Rey crowns.

He has previously coached the club’s Cadete B and Juvenil B teams.

“Raul has everything you need to become Real Madrid Coach,” Hierro insisted, on Radio Marca.

“We had all been told – when we were players – about a kid who was scoring for fun in the underage groups…that he was different.

“This was a boy who had his eyes wide open, who had plenty of enthusiasm and a level of drive and ambition that was much higher than usual.

“We all understood what he represented and what he would become.”
