Barcelona make right-back transfer priority

Barcelona have made signing a new right-back their priority for next year’s transfer plans, according to a report in Marca.

Nelson Semedo is the fist choice in the position at the moment but it is claimed that the club’s board and management believe the area needs upgrading.

Portugal international Semedo has started less than half (36) La Liga matches between his arrival at the Camp Nou in the summer of 2017 and the start of this year and has been said to be open to an exit from the Camp Nou.

Semedo joined in a €35m deal from Benfica and whilst he is the only natural right-back in Ernesto Valverde’s first-team squad, the versatile Sergi Roberto has often been preferred to him.

Moussa Wague, the Senegalese full-back signed last summer, could be promoted to the first-team squad but lacks experience at such a level.

No players were mentioned in the report but it appears that the full-back area now appears to be the priority ahead of adding further attacking talent.
