Barcelona bosses ‘cried’ when they signed Frenkie de Jong

The agent of midfielder Frenkie de Jong has revealed how then Barcelona general manager Pep Segura cried when they signed his agent.

The Dutch international arrived in June following his pre-agreed €75m move from Ajax, and the 22-year old midfielder is focused on forcing his way into Ernesto Valverde's starting XI.

It was a move that became somewhat of a soap opera with a host of Europe’s biggest clubs chasing the signature of the gifted midfielder.

“It became a tug of war, where PSG, Manchester City and Juventus did almost everything to get Frenkie. But Barcelona had always been his first choice, his football was at stake, his DNA,” Hasan Cetinkaya explained to Aftonbladet, as cited by Marca.

“The sports officials of Barcelona were so relieved that then general sports manager Pep Segura began to cry as soon as the documents were written. They had tremendous pressure to close the agreement.

“There were hugs and champagne and then we all went to a restaurant in the mountains to which Barcelona invited us. We drank the best wine from Spain, we ate a fantastic steak and everyone laughed and was happy.”
