Frenkie de Jong: I rejected Man City, PSG

Frenkie de Jong admits he had offers to join Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City this summer before opting for Barcelona.

The Dutch international arrived in June following his pre-agreed €75m move from Ajax, and the 22-year old midfielder is focused on forcing his way into Ernesto Valverde's starting XI.

However, earlier this year there was a public race between a series of Europe’s elite clubs to land the talented midfielder, with the player now confirming the champions of France and England were among them.

“If it had not been Barcelona, it is hard for me to say now, but it would have had to have been PSG or Manchester City,” he told El Periodico.

“It is not good to talk about being motivated by money. Money is not my area – it was never a topic of discussion at meetings that I was at. That was my agent's business.

“My choice of Barcelona was because they were the club who showed me the most love.

“The first time I heard about Barça? It was in 2018. My agent called me to say: 'Barcelona has been interested in you, let's talk to them.' Listening to something like that makes you proud and flattered.”

The former Willem II player has been involved in all seven of Barcelona’s early fixtures, starting six of those.
