Spanish FA open case against FC Barcelona over Antoine Griezmann transfer

FC Barcelona will face an RFEF investigation over Antione Griezmann's transfer from Atletico Madrid.

The French international completed his long awaited move to the Camp Nou on July 12, after the La Liga champions exercised his €120m release clause with Diego Simeone's side.

Griezmann, who rejected a move to Catalonia less than 12 months ago, signed a new five-year deal at the Wanda Metropolitano in June 2019, with a release clause of €200m – which dropped to €120m on July 1.

However Atletico Madrid have reported their rivals to the Spanish footballing authorities following reports that they agreed a deal with Griezmann back in March, without the club's consent and when his release clause was still at €200m.

Los Rojiblancos claim they are owed an additional €80m as part of the deal, and have asked the Spanish FA to look into the reports.

No official comment has been provided by the RFEF at this stage on the details of their investigation.
