Barcelona ‘open talks’ with Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata

Barcelona have opened talks with out-of-contract Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata over a summer move, according to reports.

The playmaker initially moved to English football in 2011, joining Chelsea from Valencia, before a £37m transfer to Manchester United in January 2014.

The 30-year-old’s deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer and he is available to speak to other clubs, with The Sun reporting that his father has opened talks with the Blaugrana.

Mata has netted 44 goals across 258 first-team appearances for the Red Devils and has 10 goals from 41 international caps with Spain.

His compatriot Ander Herrera is also out of contract at United this summer and is reported to have a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.
