Sergio Ramos to escape El Clasico ban

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos will be available for their La Liga El Clasico clash with Barcelona on March 2nd after avoiding a suspension.

The defender was yellow carded in their 2-1 defeat to Girona, ruling him out of their next league clash, against Levante, as it was his fifth La Liga caution of the season.

He then received a second booking later on in the game, throwing his El Clasico participation into doubt.

However, under La Liga rules each potential suspension cannot be served together, so the Spanish international will serve a one game ban against Levante, for the red card, with his yellow count remaining at four for the season, and he will miss their trip to Real Valladolid if he is booked on March 2nd.

Ramos continues to be at the centre of suspension controversy, as he awaits UEFA's decision on his Champions League ban following a caution against Ajax in midweek.

He recieved a late yellow card against the Dutch side, ruling him out of the second leg due to accumulative bookings. However his post match comments could earn him an additional ban after he hinted that he collected the booking on purpose, in order to wipe his disciplinary slate ahead of the a potential quarter final.

The 32 year-old is also at risk of a Copa del Rey ban, and if he receives a caution in the semi final second leg against Barcelona, he will be suspended for the final.
