Spain want Sanchez Flores

The Spanish FA have identified Quique Sanchez Flores as their first-choice candidate for the next Spain boss, according to reports.

The 53-year-old has a vast array of managerial experience and was most recently at Espanyol, from where he was dismissed in April.

Diario AS say Sanchez Flores’s immediate availability and experience of managing at the top-level – including stints at Benfica and Atletico Madrid, has made him the ideal candidate.

Former Barcelona Coach Luis Enrique and Michel, most recently at Malaga, have also been linked with the position, while Paco Jemez is another name in the report.

Fernando Hierro is not expected to retain his temporary position after the World Cup, although he could be moved back into a Director of Football role.

Spain exited the World Cup at the last 16 stage following a surprise penalty shootout defeat against Russia.
