Diego Costa expressed his relief at scoring Spain’s World Cup winner against Iran on Wednesday. “The important thing was to win and move forward.”
“I had a bit of luck with my goal, but I’m happy because it was a very contested game and they sat very deep,” said the Atletico Madrid striker after the 1-0 victory in Kazan.
“The important thing today was to win. They sat very deep and we knew we needed to stay patient and wait for the exact moment to score.
“We had a great game against Portugal and our opponents were very far behind. It took a long time for us to find our feed, but the important thing was to win and move forward.
“Did I tread on the Iran goalkeeper? I was very calm because there were many cameras and I was adamant I hadn’t done anything wrong.”
