Las Palmas president arrested

Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez (pictured left) has been arrested at the Gran Canaria airport on Wednesday morning, reports Spanish media.

The Gran Canarian businessman has been detained by national police while Marca cite the president as saying he was “at the disposal of the police as soon as he landed in Madrid.”

He has been detained on charges of social security fraud by paying workers below the agreement in relation to private security and surveillance, thus avoiding payment in ‘tens of millions’ of Euros.

Ramirez will testify before a Spanish judge on Thursday, according to Diario La Provincia.

Las Palmas were relegated from the top flight in Spain at the weekend.
