Vasco demand Coutinho compensation

Brazilian club Vasco de Gama claim they are owed up to €4m due to former player Philippe Coutinho’s switch from Liverpool to Barcelona.

The playmaker joined the Catalan giants last month in a deal said to be worth up to €160m but Vasco claim they are owed roughly 2.5% due to FIFA’s rule of rewarding clubs who have produced players.

“We have not yet received our monies due,” vice-president of the Brazilian club, Orlando Marques, is quoted as saying by Diario Sport.

“We are not worried about receiving this amount but it is not right he is already playing for Barcelona and we do not have it, and we fear it could take a long time, but we are calm.”

Sport claim a €3m fee should have been paid within 30 days of the player’s registration with the Blaugrana, while a further €750k will later be paid.
