Atleti agree €20m Rodri deal – report

Atletico Madrid have agreed a €20m deal for Villarreal’s highly-rated midfielder Rodri Hernandez, a former youth product of the club.

The 21-year-old spent six years at Atleti’s academy before joining the Yellow Submarine in 2013 and has gone on to make 60 appearances for the club.

A report in Marca now reports a deal of €20m has been agreed, alongside a further €5m in developments, with the move to go through next summer.

“The agreement is a private sum and therefore we won't communicate it,” Villarreal’s CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles is quoted as saying by Marca.

“If an offer is received that is good for all parties and it will be studied, as is always the case.”

Kevin Gameiro and Lucas Vietto are rumoured to be among the players at the Wanda Metropolitano who are likely to be sold to raise funds over the coming calendar year, while Antoine Griezmann may also exit the club.

Spanish international duo Vitolo and Diego Costa will become available for selection for Atletico in January 2018.

Rodri is seen as a natural replacement for Gabi in Atleti’s squad and Sergio Busquets successor with Spain.
