Diego Simeone says he is fired up for the “challenge” that awaits Atletico Madrid in the second half of this season.
Four defeats in their last eight games have left Atleti sixth in La Liga, provisionally eight points behind leaders and arch-rivals Real Madrid, but reenergised Simeone is ready to make up ground over the next five months.
“I have a thought for teams that are clear about how they play,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“Their Coach is working extremely well and has a team that have clarity, which allows them to be at their best.
“They are intense, have good width, occupy both boxes with a lot of players, play the second ball very well and are very aggressive from the start.
“For this, we’ll have to take the match where we think it suits us the most.
“In the last quarter [of the season’s first half], inconsistency took us away from where we had always been.
“It’s not easy because the other teams competed better, but it’s a challenge that we have from now on, balancing these feelings but without moving away from what made us originally believe in what we do, which is going from match to match.”
