Reports in France suggest that Rennes have reached an agreement in principle to sign Real Sociedad Coach Philippe Montanier this summer.
The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and has seen negotiations over an extension stall.
It is believed that whilst all parties are pushing for the renewal, Montanier is after a three-year contract to stay at the team he has on the verge of Champions League qualification, whilst the board are reluctant to commit to more than two years.
Reports in his native country suggest that he has an option to leave, with an agreement with Ligue 1 outfit Rennes apparently agreed in principle, and for the three years that the 48-year-old is after.
Montanier left the French top flight in 2011 to take over at Anoeta.
